Original Lyrics & Poetry
Words are at the heart of my creative practice. I write original song lyrics and poetry shaped by story, emotion, memory, landscape and human connection.
My lyric writing is concerned with imagery, rhythm, atmosphere and the emotional weight of language — allowing words to find their own voice rather than forcing them into a predetermined formula.
Some pieces begin with an observation, a memory, a place or an idea; others develop through personal experience, collaboration or commission. Each is allowed to develop in its own way, with care given to the character, rhythm and intention behind the work.
This is an artist-led and considered process, with the words remaining central.
1. Pre-Written Lyrics – From £69
A selection of original, non-AI lyrics is available for licensing through Songbay.
These are completed lyrical works written by Michèle Keatley and available for artists, musicians and other creative projects seeking distinctive, human-written lyrics with their own character, imagery and voice.
Each work remains authored by me, with licensing terms defining how the lyric may be used.
2. Custom Lyric Writing – From £69
Original lyrics written specifically around your theme, story, idea or creative direction.
I develop each lyric individually, working with imagery, language, rhythm and lyrical structure to create words that have their own character and emotional shape.
The process begins with your idea and develops through the writing — allowing the lyric to emerge naturally rather than working from a fixed template.
Commissioned lyrics are created for the intended use, with licensing and rights agreed clearly before the work begins.
Lift Me Up
“Lift Me Up” is an indie-folk song following a father and son through the Brecon Beacons in Wales, reflecting on the memory of a soldier known as “Walters”.
Through landscape, memory and quiet connection, the song explores the relationship between the natural world and the lives and memories we carry within us.
The song is available on streaming platforms, with the original lyrics also available for licensing.
