Monthly Creative Update – Finding the Path Forward

A photograph may inspire a lyric. A lyric may inspire a song. A song may inspire a new interpretation by another artist. Creativity continues to evolve through the connections we make and the stories we choose to share‘.
The past few months have been spent refining the production and release workflow behind future music projects. While progress has largely taken place behind the scenes, the work has resulted in a clearer pathway from lyric creation and composition through to production, licensing and release.

As an independent creator, much of the process involves balancing creative ambitions with practical realities. There have been technical challenges, equipment limitations, competing priorities and the need to place health and wellbeing first. Yet despite these obstacles, important progress has been made.

Perhaps the most significant development has been gaining a deeper understanding of how my songs evolve from initial ideas into finished works. My creative process has never followed a conventional route. Songs often begin as observations gathered on walks, fragments of conversation, photographs taken in the field, memories, landscapes, and moments that leave a lasting impression. These pieces gradually form lyrical narratives before finding their musical identity through tempo, chord progression, atmosphere and arrangement.

Recent work on both *The Curve* and *This House* has helped clarify this pathway. What once felt like separate stages now feels increasingly connected: lyric writing, composition, visual storytelling, musical development, documentation, licensing and eventual release.

The next stage involves further exploration of stem extraction, MIDI creation, notation, and refinement within GarageBand. These technical elements are important because they allow ideas to be revisited, verified and developed beyond their initial reference form. While there is still research to be done, the overall direction is now much clearer than it was at the beginning of the year.

Alongside the music, I have continued spending time in the landscape with camera in hand.

One particularly memorable moment came during a recent walk. Having originally set out in search of deer to photograph, I found myself witnessing something entirely unexpected. In the distance, a large bird rose into the sky and disappeared across the landscape. The image itself was captured only briefly, but during later editing I noticed the striking white colouring revealed within the photograph.

Subsequent research suggests it may have been a White-tailed Eagle, one of Britain’s most remarkable birds and a species that has been reintroduced to parts of the United Kingdom in recent years. Whether or not the identification can ever be confirmed with certainty, the moment itself was unforgettable. It served as a reminder that some of the most meaningful discoveries occur when we are looking for something else entirely.

In many ways, the experience mirrors the creative process itself.

A walk intended to photograph deer becomes an encounter with an eagle.

A lyric becomes a song.

A photograph becomes a story.

A challenge becomes a new direction.

For now, the work continues to develop through new lyrics, photographic projects, website improvements and the ongoing refinement of future music releases. Progress may not always be visible in finished products, but the foundations are steadily being laid.

Thank you, as always, for following the journey.
