From Little Acorns: A Lyric Finds Its Way

Sometimes the best news arrives when you least expect it.

In my case, it arrived in my Spam folder.

I am delighted to share that Blubellwood Blog has been selected as a Finalist in the 2026 Unsigned Only Music Awards, in the Lyricist category.

The competition receives thousands of entries from around the world, so to have my work selected as a Finalist is both a genuine surprise and a great honour.

For me, this recognition is particularly meaningful because I entered as a lyricist. Writing has always been at the heart of my creative work. I am largely self-taught, and my creative journey has developed through many different and often unexpected threads, with words remaining the constant thread connecting them.

My lyrics explore human experience, relationships, memory, longing, resilience, nature and those emotions that can sometimes be difficult to put into words. I tend to begin with a feeling, an image, an observation or simply a phrase that stays with me, allowing the writing to develop organically.

More recently, those lyrics have begun to find their way into music. This is still an emerging part of my creative journey, and I am enjoying discovering what happens when the words begin to find their own melody and musical landscape.

The Unsigned Only judging process is now in its final stage, with the winners expected to be announced in September.

There was also a separate public vote for finalists called Fandemonium. Unfortunately, I discovered my finalist notification in my Spam folder on 30 August — two days after that particular vote had closed.

My timing was, shall we say, impeccable.

But the main judging continues, and that is what matters.

For now, I am simply grateful to have my lyric writing recognised among so many talented entrants from around the world.

It is a lovely moment in what continues to be an unfolding creative journey.

And perhaps the nicest thing about unexpected recognition is that it gives you a moment to stop, look back at how far you’ve come, and then carry on writing.

So I will.

From little acorns grow.

And I’ll wait and see what September brings.
