Blubellwood: The Beginning and the End Where Two Opposites Meet

My creative journey has never been a straight path. Looking back, it feels more like a continuous thread — a return to something that was always present within me.

From an early age, I was drawn towards creativity, observation and storytelling. My first expressions came through visual art, photography, drawing and film. I have always been fascinated by the relationship between people, places, memories and the unseen connections that shape our experiences.

My creative foundations were shaped through exploration of the arts, including my time studying within the creative environment at AUCB in Bournemouth and later through my experiences around the gallery world, including the space formerly known as ArtSway. Being surrounded by artists, exhibitions and creative conversations strengthened my understanding that art is not simply about creating something; it is about communicating an experience.

Life, however, took unexpected turns. Personal circumstances, health challenges and periods of change altered the pace and direction of my journey. Yet those experiences also changed the way I observed the world.

During these years, walking became an important part of my creative process. Moving through coastlines, salt marshes, countryside and open landscapes, I began to reconnect with the quieter details around me — light, weather, movement, human stories and moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

The earth became my landscape, and the landscape became part of my voice.

Something was innately speaking to me and I just had to tune in and listen.

My songwriting often begins before the song itself. It begins with observation, memory and connection. A phrase overheard, an image from nature, a moment of human interaction, a feeling carried through time — these fragments become the first threads of a story.

My work is rooted in the relationship between spirituality, nature, consciousness and human connection. Rather than simply writing within a conventional song structure, I often find myself creating a mood, an atmosphere or an emotional environment for the listener to enter.

During a period of intense creative flow, a collection of songs emerged: *Salt Across The Water, The Curve, Little Bird, Sanguine Sun* and *This House*.

Each song developed its own world. The process felt immersive — as though I stepped inside each narrative and lived alongside the words, allowing the images, emotions and stories to reveal themselves. The songs became places of memory, reflection and transformation.

For me, songwriting is where the visible world meets the invisible one.

An important milestone in this journey was discovering that the words I had carried internally could also find their way into the world through collaboration.

One of the earliest pieces I wrote was *Moon In The Water*. The lyrics originated from my own creative process and were later developed into a finished piece through collaboration with Gary Cubberley of Songbay, with vocals performed by Chique.

Hearing my words interpreted through another artist’s voice was a profound moment. It demonstrated that lyrics are not simply words on a page; they carry emotion, atmosphere and stories that can connect with others.

This became an important step in recognising myself not only as a writer, but as a songwriter.

Since then, the journey has continued through further exploration, learning and sharing my work with wider audiences. Entering opportunities such as Unsigned Only and the International Songwriting Competition has become part of that ongoing process — allowing my work to be heard, reflected upon and placed within a wider songwriting community.

The foundation has remained constant throughout:

The writing came first.

The tools came afterwards.

My relationship with voice has also been part of this journey. Growing up aware of the power of spoken expression through my father’s professional voice work, I came to understand that while we may inherit influences from those before us, every artist must discover their own voice.

Through time, reflection and personal growth, I began to recognise that my own voice was waiting to emerge.

My creative journey has also been one of continuous self-education. Although I have explored formal creative environments, much of my development has come through independent research, experimentation and practical application.

I have spent countless hours studying, learning and exploring new skills from the ground up — from music technology and production, to photography, video creation and digital tools. Building my own small creative environment has been a gradual process of curiosity, patience and persistence.

The emergence of new technology has become another chapter in this journey. I have explored artificial intelligence as a reference and learning tool within music development — using it to investigate arrangement possibilities, musical interpretation and production approaches.

However, the foundation of my work remains human.

My lyrics, stories and creative direction originate from my own experiences, observations, imagination and connection with the world around me. Technology may provide new pathways for exploration, but the emotional source remains the same: human experience.

The practical side of sharing creative work has also been its own learning curve. I often describe my relationship with social media as a gentle climb up a very tall staircase — taking each step carefully, learning as I go, and occasionally stopping to admire the view before continuing upwards.

I have always loved writing quotes, capturing thoughts and moments of reflection. Perhaps that is another part of the same process — collecting small fragments of meaning and allowing them to become something larger.

The beginning and the end are often found where two opposites meet.

Where silence meets sound.
Where darkness meets light.
Where memory meets imagination.
Where the earth meets the spirit.

This is where I continue to discover my voice.

Current projects include the continuing development of This House, alongside visual storytelling and original music inspired by the landscapes, memories and human experiences that shape the Blubellwood journey.
